President's Message

Welcome to the 2014-2015 Year

We’re very excited about the upcoming year of programs and activities. Our theme this year is, “The Digital Revolution”, and I want to cordially invite all of you to join us as we learn, grow, and generally have fun together.

Let me mention a couple of things to note as we kick off this AMA-year. First, while it’s still a work in progress, we’re pleased to announce that we have a new website! We’re very excited about all the new opportunities this site presents.

Second, we’re going to continue raising the bar in our event programming. We’re kicking off with what I expect to be an incredibly informative program next Tuesday 8/19 on SEO, Google’s latest algorithm, and effective writing for the web. We’ll be following up next month with a panel discussion on the most effective ways to integrate sales & marketing. We’ve also been fortunate to partner with the Boar’s Head Inn again this year to serve as the venue for the majority of our programs.

Finally, we’ve taken a big step in designating two separate “sub-chapters” within our overall organization. TheValley AMA” subchapter will plan, host, and execute programs primarily for our members in the Shenandoah Valley, while the “Cville AMA” subchapter will host and execute programs primarily for folks in the Charlottesville vicinity. (By the way… as a Central Virginia AMA Member, you’re invited to attend all the events regardless of which subchapter hosts them.)

A great big thank-you in advance to all of our awesome Board Members, Volunteers, and AMA Members for the awesome year that we have before us.

EMMAs Report

Congratulations to the 2014 Excellence in Marketing Award Winners

Annually the EMMAs recognize the amazing talent and creativity we have within the Central Virginia area. This past spring, we took the entries up to Washington D.C. for blind judging.  The judges evaluated each entry based on the objective of the project, strategy, methodology, and results. CVAAMA presented the results with a Gala held in downtown Charlottesville at the Old Metropolitan Hall. Attendees had the opportunity to see the entries displayed around the room, enjoy some food and fellowship, and celebrate as the winners were announced. Another round of applause to our 2014 winners:

  • Broadcast: Lynchburg College (Lynchburg College Commercial)
  • Cross Media: UVA Student Affairs (UVA Handbook & Website for Parents)
  • Digital Marketing: Mountain High Media (Infamous Stringdusters: American Rivers Tours)
  • Logo Identity: Watermark Design (The Boneyard Winery Identity & Packing)
  • Print Collateral: McClung Companies (Donnatal Mailing Campaign)
  • Website: The Ivy Group (ASWB Website Redesign)

Our overall winner selected by the judges was McClung Companies! Thank you again to everyone who entered. We’re looking forward to the upcoming year to showcase the great work in this area. Be thinking about which projects you’d like to submit for the 2015 EMMAs and we look can't wait to celebrate with you next spring.
