Central Virginia Marketers & Small Businesses Shine at Excellence in Marketing Awards
The Central Virginia Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMACVA) hosted its annual Excellence In Marketing Awards on Thursday, November 10. The EMMAs recognized local marketers and designers for projects ranging from hard cider packaging design to elementary school signage.
“The judges were really impressed with the high quality of work submitted. Supporting documents showed that these marketing campaigns helped organizations meet and exceed their business goals. We greatly appreciate the support from the marketing community in Central Virginia and look forward to making the EMMAs fall edition bigger and better in 2017,” said AMACVA president Dan Fellows.
Marketer of the Year: Crista Cabe
New to the 2016 EMMAs, Marketer of the Year recognizes a standout marketer who delivers meaningful results and displays extraordinary marketing knowledge and creativity. Crista Cabe, Senior Vice President for University Relations at Mary Baldwin University, won for her extensive work in Mary Baldwin’s rebranding and charter day ceremony.
Excellence in Experiential Design: Iconograph
Experiential design includes billboards, wayfinding signage, and trade show booths. Iconograph won for its engaging creative work on graphics and signage at Discovery Elementary School in Arlington, VA. This modern school's colorful signage incorporated animal and earth themes and encouraged student interaction.
Excellence in Online Marketing: UVA Health System
Online marketing uses email, search and display ads, social media, online videos and other digital tools. UVAHS’s campaign featured a video—produced by Paladin Media Group—of a young woman born with a skull deformity. UVAHS used a blog posts and Facebook, Instagram and Twitter ads to promote the video. The campaign stood out for its thoughtful methodology and the creative use of black and white and music in the video.
Excellence in Logo Identity: Mountain High Media
Logo identity includes new and re-designed logos for brands. Mountain High Media incorporated focus groups into its work on different versions of Draft Taproom’s logo, which won for its creative design.
Excellence in Broadcast Marketing: Skyline Roofing
This category includes campaigns where the primary vehicle of distribution is radio, television and/or online videos or podcasts. Skyline Roofing won for television and radio ads that incorporated client testimonials. Skyline’s work incorporated different audiences and achieved impressive results.
Excellence in Cross-Media Marketing: Moore Public Relations and Queen City Creative
This category uses at least two mediums, such as an online video distributed through online ads and social media campaigns. Judges consider all mediums. Moore Public Relations and Queen City Creative teamed up to create brochures, maps, web and print ads, collateral materials, a new website, and swag for the Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail. AMACVA recognized their work for excellent creativity and results.
Excellence in Print Collateral: Mountain High Media
This category is for print-oriented campaigns, including brochures and direct mail. Mountain High Media designed packaging for Bold Rock Hard Cider’s product line, emphasizing that the cider is “crushed and crafted in the Blue Ridge Mountains.” The award recognized their thorough methodology, creative use of colors, engaging design, and impressive results that included brand consistency and good shelf placement.
Excellence in Website Design: VMDO
This award recognizes outstanding, mobile-friendly websites. VMDO won for its clean design and thoughtful methodology. The VMDO design team launched VMDO’s new website in August 2016 to showcase the architecture firm’s new brand in a clean, modern layout that is visually stunning, functionally intuitive, and grounded in engaging content.
AMACVA includes marketers from Charlottesville, the Shenandoah Valley, Lynchburg, Roanoke and Blacksburg.
