About the Speaker

brian wheelerBrian Wheeler (@bawheelerwas hired as Charlottesville Tomorrow's first Executive Director in 2005.  The nonprofit is the trusted source of in-depth information on key quality of life issues in the Charlottesville area.  Its award-winning journalism is widely distributed to the public online, in email newsletters, and through news partnerships.

He helped launch the unique partnership with The Daily Progress, the first of its kind in the nation, which placed Charlottesville Tomorrow’s reporting on land use, transportation, and community design issues in the pages of the local newspaper. Since 2009 over 2,500 news stories have been published and today the nonprofit produces more than 50 percent of the newspaper's content related to growth, development, education and local politics.

Mr. Wheeler has been recognized by the Virginia Press Association with 19 awards for news reporting, multimedia reporting and photography. He was elected twice to the Albemarle County School Board and he received a B.A. in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia in May 1990.
